ABOUT ANITKABİR

MUSTAFA KEMAL ATATÜRK
(1881-1938)

Anıtkabir is one of the most well-known spots in Turkey. The reason Anıtkabir is famous worldwide is because the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk the founder of the Republic of Turkey, is there.

It was built between 1944 and 1953. Anıtkabir covers approximately 750000 m² of land and Anıtkabir's height is 17 metres tall. Ataturk was buried in Anıtkabir on November 10, 1953.

Also in Anıtkabir, there is a grave of İsmet İnönü who was the second president of the Republic of Turkey.

On national days such as the Republic Day, which is celebrated on November 29th every year, and the Victory Day, celebrated on August 30th, thousands gather in Anıtkabir in commemoration of Atatürk and all the soldiers who died for Turkey.
